ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Best book written in the Asian forum on value investing, has indeed opened the doors towards selection and learning the stock market in Asia,
A great introductory text to value investing applied in the Asia context, with specific attention to markets such as Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Two chapters in the book are particularly insightful. In Chapter five, the authors shared a very useful 10 points checklist to help us go through a quick analysis to shortlist companies worthy of further analysis. In Chapter 7, the authors also gave us a "Red Flag Checklist" specific to many of the common pitfalls to investing in Asia. To me, this chapter itself is already worth the price of the book (and many times more). More importantly, numerous examples were given in this chapter which clearly elucidates to readers how to apply this Red Flag Checklist. Hopefully, readers will be able to protect themselves from pains of buying seemingly cheap companies which value dissipates overnight.Lastly, the five case studies in chapter 9 are worth studying closely to apply the principles and methods gleaned from the book. And the interviews with five very different yet successful value investors (e.g. Wong Kok Hoi of APS Asset Management, Tan Chong Koay of Pheim Asset Management) will give both novice and experienced investors deeper conviction that value investing do work in Asia.
Good intro book, less suitable for advanced investors. Should supplement with spreadsheet or excel files to be made available on authors’ website.
