I love the turns and twists of the book. It reminded me of the disjointed times of the first pandemic year.

On time and good condition.

The book is slightly lighter than it could have been. It is very well written, full with wonderful little episodes, I didn’t go as far as it could have. And it is a bit insiderish. Still, I liked it, I like the character she created. And I think it is an honest book.

Nunez is one of my favorite modern American writers but this novel, set during the coronavirus pandemic, never really gelled for me. It seemed strangely diffuse and unfocused. None of the characters grabbed my attention. Even the macaw Eureka was a bit dull--and when Nunez is dull in her descriptions of an animal, something strange is at work. Actually there is something dull about the whole book. I finished it a few days ago and can barely remember anything about it--nor did it make me feel anything, aside from some mild irritation. Disappointing but hoping for better next time.
