On a whim, I read this book looking for a little insight into the supply chain of my small business. I thought, at first, it wouldn't apply to me, but perhaps I could pick up a few tips here and there. I have to admit, I've ready every word with enthusiasm! Even if you have a very small business or are not all that savvy when it comes to understanding the big picture of the supply chain, I encourage you to read this book. My thinking was all wrong; Demand side drives my supply chain, and just because I build it, doesn't mean they'll come.Hey, this isn't a book only for geniuses, captains of industry, supply chain managers, or large corporate leaders (although, I know a lot of them who should read this!), it's for everyone--in your company or who owns a company. Thank you, Mr. Lynch, for writing this well-appointed and easy to understand book. You've helped me immensely.

To my mind this is the best book out there on business risk management. Not only does the author give blow by blow accounts of missteps that in some cases were deadly but he explains in fine detail the process by which one can avoid these errors. The subject is complex: the Thai flood zone, Fukushima, and now the Volkswagen implosion (not covered in this book). In the first two cases the single point of failure was pretty obvious - ** in hindsight**. In the latest disaster, one is looking ultimately at the culture of one of the largest companies in the world. That makes the notion of "single point of failure" incredibly difficult not only to analyze but to repair. How would a compliance or risk officer approach Herr Winterkorn with this "little issue I've been thinking about" ?

I have used this to prepare for a CIPS exam on Supply Chain Diligence and feel like it has given me a more intuitive idea about risks general.

I'm an incoming student to Syracuse University's MS program in supply chain management and read this book as a refresher/primer on supply chain risk management. The author covers a lot of material efficiently (though his prose is often repetitive). The book also incorporated several good case studies. Both the novice and the experienced professional could get something out of this.
