The staff of the Stranger Times returns to uncover more magical mayhem and save the world once again. While they are at it, their obnoxious (but absolutely lovable) editor discovers that the actions he was tricked into taking in the previous two books to find his lost wife have irritated greatly some very powerful beings. They don't seem to care that he was manipulated and tricked, they just want to punish him for having been cruel to a ghost. But he gets one very small chance to avoid hell and that makes for a superb novel.McDonnell has produced another winner here. His characters are deep and lovable. His villains are wonderfully kooky. And it amazes me how often the fate of the world seems to depend on the small staff of a nothing newspaper located in Manchester. I can't wait to read the next one.

Always a good story and a good laugh with this author's books.

The zany characters, the interwoven plots, and the rules of magic in the story world are fascinating. The wit and social commentary, though, are even more gratifying.
