ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am not an LTE expert. I just write software that bumps up against LTE and wanted to learn more about it. This book was highly recommended by the folk with whom I asked. However, I like the coverage, explanations, and indexing significantly better in several other books, to wit:-- Christopher Cox, "An Introduction to LTE", Second Edition-- Chris Johnson, "Long Term Evolution in Bullets", 2nd Edition (prefer the more pricey color edition from Lulu press)-- Kreher & Gaenger, "LTE Signalling: Troubleshooting and Performance Measurement", Second EditionAgain, this book was the one several coworkers recommended to me, so I'm sure it's a good book -- enough so to purchase it.
As might be expected from a book by Agilent (now Keyhole), this book is strongest when it describes testing of LTE. There are many facts about LTE (and LTE-A), but not much underlying theory. You need to already understand OFDM and MIMO to really get much use from this book.
its good book to have deep knowledge for LTE. it fulfill my needs and my expectation. thanks to writers :)
I notice that Amazon does not allow these ratings to be submitted unless there are enough words typed into this section. Seems like a waste time.“Brevity is the soul of wit.” ― William Shakespeare, Hamlet“It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
I'm a radio frequency engineer, tasked with design and optimization of the link between the phones and the towers. This book is exactly what I needed to understand LTE. I highly recommend it to others who might have the same need. The only suggestion I would make is for a chapter describing the limitations of LTE, like for example:- that no one is doing voice on it yet, why not?, and how will it handle e911 calls?- problems with the backhaul;- problems of creating eNodeB's (who is really going to pay for X2 links between every tower and its neighbors? Not likely to happen in my opinion, so maybe the eNodeB implementations won't be all that different from the standard BSC);- how to handle frequency planning (subband segmentation) and capacity at the network edges;- how to optimize handoffs;- problems with MIMO deployment (cannot put 4 more antenna per sector on most towers--failed structurals--in addition to existing networks' antennas, which won't be going away anytime soon, maybe dualpole antennas, so what benefits can be realized under these circumstances?)- some info about vendors' implementations if possibleBut despite my remaining questions, the information that was in this book is pretty clearly explained. It is after all intended for a different audience, the component design engineers working on the board level to build and certify the system.
