Dissapointing. Mark Galeoti's The Vory is a absolute favorite of mine, and it seems we have shared interests.Unfortunately, where The Vory was a on-the-ground piece of brilliant investigation, everything else I've read has been dry military analysis, presumably because he gets paid by foreign policy think tanks to churn this stuff out and then give speeches at various symposiums.In this case, the majority of the book was written by a female author who basically admits the book was put together using basic OSINT techniques as she had no inside sources, no intelligence officials willing to speak off the record and throw us a few classified incicdents, and unsurprisingly, she couldn't score even a sanitized interview from Wagner.Mr. Galeotti adds what I guess is a rambling couple of chapters toward the end that adds nothing, almost like his name was tacked on as a favor to someone.I wish he'd write another version of The Vory, dealing with Ukraine or associated Eastern European crime/intel/smuggling networks, but looking at his catalog, I'm afraid he's content to speculate on current and future events from the comfort of a armchair.There is a new book, "Death is our Business" about Wagner, and it will be interesting to see if that author had more success on the investigative front, or at least offers some interesting combat/black ops anecdotes from people who were there.
