ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I'm happy with the book & service provided.
I volunteer at AMNH and have been interested in Brown for a while, so I thought I'd try this book. The style is dry, with too much detail about his numerous expeditions around the US and the world, but disappointingly little about his possible role as a spy and a seducer. For me, the best part was the tables at the end listing the expeditions in which he participated and the huge number of specimens that he collected that are on display at AMNH.
Barnum Brown was born in a tiny Kansas town about 10 miles from where I now live. I had never heard of him, the discoverer of the first T-Rex fossils, before catching an article about some grade-school students in my area who were researching him. Fascinated, I looked him up on internet and also found this used book for sale on Amazon--for a pittance. This story of Barnum Brown is well-written and detailed, and includes some of his very funny quotes. The book held my interest much more that I had anticipated, as it chronicles not only his professional but also his personal life. Included are stories of the "Dinosaur Wars," between famous but devious paleontologists vying to find the biggest, most unusual fossils in order to make a name for themselves in the scientific community.
This book is so incredibly fascinating! I first got interested in Barnum Brown after seeing a lot of the dinosaur skeletons he had found at the American Museum of Natural History. His life was both an interesting and exciting one, and makes for a wonderful read.
