I had two holidays ruined in two years thanks to my back ‘going’ and then it also ‘went’ around Christmas which I was then laid up for. Enough was finally enough and I decided to educate myself on what I could do to move forward as I was in a horrible loop of getting frustrated and depressed due to not being able to do things, and feeling apprehensive and upset about how little I was able to do (all of a sudden I couldn’t stand in a queue without anxiety about my back and I had to plan my day or trips out around being able to sit down). For a while I wondered if I would ever not feel pain, anxiety or frustration over it ever again. I saw physios and very little was ever done or changed, it was just ‘one of those things’ never really a diagnosis or anything I could actually do to get better. It was so frustrating and I was upset and down over things for a long time. I used to feel sick and faint when I thought my back might go into spasm, and the spasms themselves were so painful.Enter this book. It totally changed the way that I had to think about things and I let go of the frustration and focussed on building up my confidence. It took a long time and I had to do some things I had always fought against ... (Pilates, stretching!) but I feel great and I have had very little trouble since, touch wood. When I do I don’t let it get me down too much, just accept it’s a sign I need to go a bit slower for a while and as frustrating as it is, if I trust the process I know I will get back to where I want to be. I am doing a virtual challenge now where I walk, cycle and run 20 miles a week and I never thought I would be able to run again at one point.I have since bought copies for others and I tell everyone I know about it when they mention having a bad back. Thank you so much. It was just what I needed and I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I found this book.
