Great read!

Never saw the end coming. The text got bogged down a couple of times with financial material. Sometimes it was difficult to determine what was being spoken vs what the main character was thinking.

A Rough Way to Go by Sam Garonzik is filled with all the bells and whistle of a twisty who-done-it but, what set it apart for me, was, the protagonist, Pete’s two and a half-year old sidekick and the realistic self-deprecating inner voice of a humbled master of the universe relegated to stay-at-home dad. A real page turner.

I am not a good reader these days. Being a working parent of 3, after the day is over I watch a little tv and crash. Reading this has changed all of that. The book is unabashedly hilarious, despite being a thriller. Sam speaks to my generation of 40 something family guys, with a gripping voice and a heartfelt candor that is difficult to articulate. He brings the reader into the world of east coast high finance indirectly through the protagonist without cliche. This is a must read for anyone who has raised or is raising kids, has struggled with the urban/suburban question, and wants to be fully entertained.

I love getting to read thrillers from the male perspective - as most come from a female perspective. It’s always so interesting the thoughts and actions that come from them, as they can be cocky, unaware, but sometimes turn out to be the good guy. I really enjoyed Peter’s character. I found him very humorous, sarcastic and suspenseful. I didn’t really vibe with any of the other characters, maybe that was intentional.
